Our history

SnoCream started in 2008 in Springfield Park, Durban, with a simple aim: make it easier for South African food businesses to serve frozen treats that are consistent and reliable. From those first machines to today’s nationwide supply and support, the story has always been about practical service, steady growth and keeping operators trading.

Our history

2008: A Durban start with a clear purpose

SnoCream began in Springfield Park, Durban, where Sibusiso Naidoo set the business up with a focus on soft-serve and frozen yoghurt equipment for local cafes and kiosks. The early days were hands on: choosing dependable machines, learning what operators needed on busy weekends, and making sure first-time owners could get started without confusion.

At the time, many small food businesses wanted frozen desserts on the menu but did not have the time or technical support to manage equipment that was difficult to run. SnoCream answered that need with straightforward guidance, practical supply and a service approach that favoured long-term use over short-term sales.

2009 to 2012: Building trust order by order

As word spread through Durban, requests started coming in from Pietermaritzburg, Umhlanga and other parts of KwaZulu-Natal. These first few years shaped the way the business worked. Every installation had to be explained properly, every operator had to understand daily cleaning, and every mix had to deliver the same texture from the first cone to the last.

  • Machine installation for new cafe counters and kiosk setups
  • Startup commissioning so equipment was ready for trade from day one
  • Operator training for staff who needed simple, repeatable routines
  • Phone support for quick fixes during trading hours

Those early jobs taught the team that a machine is only useful if the people using it feel confident. That lesson still shapes the business now, especially when new sites are opening in a hurry.

2013 to 2016: Service grew alongside the product range

By 2013, SnoCream was no longer only known for equipment. Customers also wanted mixes and cones from the same source, with supply that matched their trading pattern and storage space. The range widened to suit small takeaway counters, busy restaurant dessert stations and seasonal businesses that needed stock on hand before holidays and school breaks.

Jason Pillay joined the technical side with a stronger focus on preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs, while Lerato Molefe helped shape customer support so clients could get answers quickly when stock levels were tight or a machine needed attention. The work became more organised, and the business started planning around season prep checks, seal and parts supply, mix calibration and deep clean service.

For many customers, the value was not just in buying equipment. It was in knowing there was someone to help when a unit needed a service, a relocated site, or a full sanitising clean after a long run of trade.

2017 to 2019: Reaching more cities without losing the local feel

As demand increased, SnoCream began supplying further afield into Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Gqeberha. This was a key stage in the company’s growth because each city brought different trading conditions. Inland stores had to manage power interruptions and dry heat, while coastal businesses had to think about humidity, salt air and storage conditions that can affect equipment and stock.

The team responded by tightening logistics and support. Anele Dlamini coordinated more complex projects, Willem van Zyl handled field service visits, and Nokuthula Khumalo kept deliveries moving so clients could plan around weekend trade, school holidays and month-end rushes. It was also the period when more restaurants began adding frozen yoghurt and soft-serve as a simple way to increase dessert sales without adding a full kitchen burden.

  • Site relocations for growing food businesses
  • Preventive maintenance plans to avoid avoidable downtime
  • Deep clean service for higher hygiene standards
  • Sanitising supplies for daily and weekly operating routines

2020 to 2021: Keeping businesses going through difficult trading

Like many South African suppliers, SnoCream had to adapt quickly during years when trading conditions changed often. Clients needed practical support for smaller teams, uncertain foot traffic and more pressure on cash flow. Machines had to be maintained properly, stock planning had to be tighter, and operators needed advice that was useful right away, not later in the week.

This period made the value of good service even clearer. Phone support became a regular lifeline for customers trying to keep dessert counters open. Preventive checks mattered more because a failed compressor, worn seal or blocked line could cost a weekend of sales. The business stayed focused on the basics that matter most: getting equipment running, keeping it clean and helping owners protect their income.

Durban remains the base, but by then the team was working with clients across the country who expected reliable response and clear guidance no matter where they traded.

2022 to today: A mature team with a practical way of working

Today, SnoCream serves cafes, kiosks and restaurants across South Africa from Springfield Park, with active reach into Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Gqeberha and Pietermaritzburg. The business now has a seasoned team led by Sibusiso Naidoo, with each person playing a clear role in sales, technical work, customer support, logistics and project coordination.

That structure helps clients get what they need without delay. A new outlet can be guided through installation and operator training. A busy store can book a service check before a problem becomes a shutdown. A seasonal business can arrange mix calibration, parts replacement and season prep checks before the first heat wave or holiday rush hits.

What has not changed since 2008 is the way the business measures its work. If a customer can serve smooth frozen treats, keep equipment in good order and trade with confidence, then SnoCream has done its job properly. The company has grown, but the focus is still the same: practical supply, clear support and dependable service that helps South African businesses keep going.

  • Machine installation and startup commissioning
  • Operator training and phone support
  • Preventive maintenance and breakdown repairs
  • Seal and parts, deep cleans and sanitising supplies
